Getting started

Quickstart

Create and send a test invoice in the sandbox. You need a terminal and about ten minutes.

1

Create a sandbox key

In the dashboard, go to Settings, then Developers, and create a key under Sandbox. It starts with neno_api_test_. The full key is only shown once, so copy it before closing the dialog.

Terminal
export NENO_API_KEY="neno_api_test_…"
2

Make your first request

List invoices to check the key works. A new sandbox workspace has none yet, so an empty list is the expected result.

cURL
curl "https://api.neno.build/public/v1/invoices?limit=1" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $NENO_API_KEY"
200 OK
{
"data": [],
"nextCursor": null,
"hasMore": false
}
3

Create a draft invoice

Amounts are strings in minor units, so "125000" in euros is €1,250.00. The invoice is saved as a draft and won’t have a number until you send it.

cURL
curl -X POST https://api.neno.build/public/v1/invoices \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $NENO_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Idempotency-Key: $(uuidgen)" \
-d '{
"customerName": "Aalto Studio BV",
"currencyCode": "EUR",
"lineItems": [
{
"description": "Brand identity, phase 2",
"quantity": "1",
"unitPriceMinor": "125000",
"taxRatePercent": "21"
}
]
}'
4

Send it

Use the id from the previous response. Sending finalizes the draft, gives it an invoice number and emails the customer.

cURL
curl -X POST https://api.neno.build/public/v1/invoices/inv_7Hq2c9LmX4/send \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $NENO_API_KEY"

From here, read Amounts and currency before handling real money, then follow Invoice a customer for the complete flow.
